Secretary General of the Russian Volleyball Federation, Aleksander Yaremenko, stated for rsport.ru that he expects approval from the Russian Ministry of Sports and government on this matter.

“Nothing has changed in regard to our application for the 2022 World Championship in Russia. It is not fully formalized yet. It is on the same initial stage on which it was after a visit of Ary Graça, two years ago. In order to make it full, the Ministry of Sports and then government need to approve it. In principle, we are ready and willing to host the tournament if we receive state support,” Yaremenko explained the point of view of the Russian Volleyball Federation.

On Wednesday, Russian Minister of Sports Vitaliy Mutko said that Russia will claim a major international tournament in basketball and volleyball in the period from 2022 to 2024.

In December 2014, FIVB President Ary Graça officially visited Moscow and stated that the FIVB is ready to give organization of the 2022 Men’s Volleyball World Championship to Russia.
