Third seed Uralochka downed No.2 Dinamo Kazan in Game 1 of the playoff semifinals and will return home with huge confidence for the rematch. The team coached by legendary Nikolay Karpol made a comeback after being 2-0 down in sets, partially 19-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15- 12.
Uralochka receiver Kseniya Ilchenko scored game-high 38 points while Irina Voronkova topped Dinamo’s scorers with 24. Both teams had monster blocking display: Dinamo made 26 of which Irina Zaryazhko had 8 and Darya Isaeva 7, while Uralochka made 20 of which Elena Irisova had 7 and Ekaterina Evdokimova 6.
Game 2 of best-of-three semifinal series is scheduled for March 25 at Uralochka’s court.
