The Serbian Volleyball Federation (OSS) announced that a suspension of the Women’s national team player Ana Antonijević was lifted.

„The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) informed the Serbian Volleyball Federation, the Serbian Anti-Doping Agency and Ana Antonijević, a member of the Serbian Women’s Volleyball National Team, that the imposed suspension for a positive drug test on a substance clenbuterol has been lifted,“ the OSS published on its website.

Antonijević was tested during the Final Six of the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix in Nanjing, China, and found positive for the foregoing substance, just like the member of the Italian NT, Miriam Sylla. Right away, the Italian Federation (FIPAV) requested a doping test counter-analysis, claiming she got it through the food.

A detailed analysis of Antonijević’s test showed that she was found positive because she ate contaminated food during the tournament, which coincides with what FIPAV stated in the case of Sylla. The OSS added that the FIVB will forward this analysis to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) who will announce its decision subsequently.

According to the decision of the FIVB, Antonijević, who did not take part in winning the gold medal of the Serbian NT in the 2017 CEV European Championship in Azerbaijan and Georgia, will be able to compete for the Swiss side Volero Zürich in the upcoming season, effective immediately.

Very interesting timing of this announcement, just 2 days after Europian championship ended. Fortunately, Serbia won gold medal anyway
