CSV W: Continental Championship started with a “South American classic”

The 34th edition of the South American Women’s Championship marked the return to the field of the Brazilian team, the silver medalist from the Olympic Games in Tokyo and the holder of 21 continental titles. Team led by José Roberto Guimarães started with a 3-0 victory over Peru (25-17, 25-23, 25-18) in the “South American classic”. Gabriela Braga Guimarães (Gabi) and Natália Zilio Pereira from Brazil were the top scorers of the match with 12 points each. On the Peruvian side, Karla Beatriz Ortiz Oyola was the top scorer with 11 points.

In the second match of the day, Colombia beat Chile 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-12). Beatriz Novoa from Chile was the top scorer of the match with 17 points, while for Colombians Amanda Daniela Coneo Cardona scored 13.

STANDINGS

Colombia hosting the South American Championships from September 15 to 19 in Barrancabermeja. Competition is played in a single round-robin format (each team plays with every other team once). Two first-placed teams from the continental tournament will qualify for the 2022 World Championship in Russia.
