Just days after the Iowa State volleyball team fell out of the NCAA tournament in early December, senior Tenisha Matlock was on the hunt for a pair of basketball shoes.
With the loss of sophomore forward Madison Baier for the season to a torn ACL, the 14th-ranked women’s basketball team was searching for a tall player to replace her.
The 188cm tall Matlock brought in her first rebounds and scored her first points for the Cyclones (10-0) as they remained undefeated with a 72-50 win Saturday against Holy Cross in front of 7,758 fans as part of the Cyclone Challenge at Hilton Coliseum.
“Obviously, it’s fun to see Tenisha in there,” Cyclones coach Bill Fennelly said. “I don’t know if I’ve seen someone so excited to make a basket. It’s an amazing story what that girl’s doing for us and what she’s trying to do.”
