WL: USA crushed Serbia

The United States won the battle of the unbeaten teams in Pool B of the 2014 FIVB World League, sweeping Serbia 3-0 (30-28, 25-20, 25-16) at the Pavilion at the University of Illinois, Chicago, on Friday.

 USA opposite Matt Anderson led all scorers with 25 points on 22 kills, two blocks and one ace. Outside hitter Taylor Sander added 15 points on 14 attacks and one ace.

Aleksandar Atanasijević led  Serbia with 13 points on 13 attacks while Nikola Kovačević added 11 points on eight attacks with two blocks and one ace.

USA captain Sean Rooney said after the match: “I’m pretty sure Serbia will play better tomorrow. We were satisfied with the result tonight. As always with World League, we have the opportunity to do it again tomorrow and we’re already excited about getting out there on the court and doing it again.”

The defeat was Serbia’s first of the 2014 World League and they will try to get back to winning ways when the teams meet again on Saturday.
