USA coach Karch Kiraly:

„It is always an honour to share the court with the Brazilian team. They are a legendary team having won the last two Olympic gold medals. They have won so many tournaments and they are very well coached by Ze Roberto. We love to compete against the best that is out there. Tonight we had a good plan and we executed it. We have a lot of work still to be done.

We had focused a lot. We had learned some things from a disappointing Grand Prix campaign. We wanted to improve our service. Players like Larson, Fawcett and Murphy have increased their ability to make people work and make our defense easier. That was our focus for tonight. Brazil put opponents off with their strong serve like Thaisa and Sheilla and we needed to do the same.

We knew after winning the first set they were going to come back and fight fiercely against us and that is what they did. We had patience to come back from the lead that Brazil had early in the set. Every time you lose you have motivation to go on and do better. Brazil was kind enough to come visit the United States earlier this summer to play some friendly matches. There is great co-operation to make it better. Brazil is one of the truly great teams and there were others playing this week. Every match and point is difficult.“
