Dresden, Germany, February 1, 2012. A very special Volleyball night was celebrated in Dresden as the home team – a real rookie in Europe’s most elitist competition – challenged Russia’s Dinamo KAZAN in the 1/8 finals of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League. The guests from Tatarstan lived up to the expectations and eventually downed DRESDNER SC in straight sets (25-12, 25-20, and 25-13).

Dinamo was not impressed by the great atmosphere created at “Margon Arena” by 2’650 local fans and quickly imposed its rhythm in the opening set (25-12).

DRESDNER SC was able to keep the score very close in set 2 (7:7, 15:15), but the Russian stars around Ekaterina Gamova changed gear in the final rush (25-20).

Dinamo opened strong also in the third set (8:3) to wrap it up in three straight sets (25-13).

Jordan Larson and Anne Matthes top scored tonight for Dinamo KAZAN and DRESDNER SC respectively with 11 points apiece.

We definitely wanted to play better than we did tonight” said home coach Alexander Waibl.

But Dinamo was really too strong for us”.
