This is a very good result for the team mentored by Axel Mondi who still will need to win also the return match coming up next week in Holland to make it to the next round of the competition.
Setter Victor Viciana well distributed among his attackers with a good support coming from Gustavo Delgado who top scored with 12 points, while middle blocker Jesus Chourio totaled 10, including 3 blocks.
“We played good especially in attack but it was not that easy” says head coach Mondi.
“Viciana played an excellent match” stresses the mentor of Unicaja ALMERIA.
Middle blockers Chourio and Alberto Salas turned into a kind of wall for the Dutch attackers in the first set, with outside hitter Robbert Andringa and opposite Edson Felicissimo struggling to find a way through the Spanish block.
Unicaja accelerated the pace after the first technical time-out in set 2 (12:7) and did not slow down until stamping the final 25-17 on the scoreboard.
Dutch head coach Ronald Zoodsma made some changes in set 3 and initially it worked well (5:8) and a real neck-to-neck race unfolded after the second mandatory stop with continuous ties and side-outs.
However, Iban Perez, Chourio and Salas scored the last points of the set for Unicaja and the match eventually ended in a 3:0.
