Aurubis lost the opening set to the hosts who were cheered by some 400 fans and looked relaxed and very motivated at the same time. On the other hand, HAMBURG was a little shaky in almost all fundamentals and eventually lost that opening set after 31 minutes (23-25).

However, the guests from Germany gradually found their best play and could impose their tempo, with SEMPETER that had it difficult to score and was eventually bested in four sets. Vendula Merkova and team captain Imke Wedekind top scored for Aurubis with 16 points apiece while SEMPETER was paced by Jerneja Lakovsek with 11.

In the next round Aurubis will play Croatia’s ZOK RIJEKA with the first match set to take place in Croatia and the return coming up on December 12 at “CU Arena” in Hamburg.
