The girls, coached by Guillermo Caceres overcame their rival with a clear 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-14) in just over an hour playing. The top scorer of the match was the Argentine Captain, Sol Piccolo with 12 points. This Friday, the light blue – white team will face Uruguay at 16.00 Argentine time.
In the first set, Argentina got an early leadership surprising Venezuela that could not control their debut nerves making too many non forced errors serving and receiving. The same happened in the second set, Venezuela never found the way to concentrate but on the third set, Venezuela found its momentum leading up to the point 11 when Argentina reacted and thereafter had the match in their hands.
Venezuela coach, Enrique Lazarreta expressed: “Our team lacks international matches, Argentina is a great group of experienced players with good spiking and serving. We were also very nervous”.
Guillermo Caceres, Argentine Coach said: “We played very well and I am very happy for my players performance because they did what they were told, the tournament just starts so we can not lose our level”. Piccolo meanwhile added: “Venezuela played well, it was not easy even though the score shows something different. We have some players that performed like juniors but we have to level our performance and make all play at the same level”. ‘
