After a gripping round of eighthfinal matches held across Osijek, Vrnjacka Banja, and Trstenik, the quarterfinal matchups have been confirmed: Bulgaria vs Brazil, Türkiye vs China, Poland vs Japan, and Italy vs USA.
European champions Bulgaria swept Mexico 3-0 with a dominant all-around performance, spearheaded by outside hitter Kalina Veneva. Her 12-point contribution, alongside teammates Viara Parapunova and Darina Naneva, showcased Bulgaria’s balanced offense and defense.
Over in Serbia, Japan overcame a shaky start to defeat Chinese Taipei 3-1. Star opposite Rion Chuganji once again proved vital, leading the scoring with 25 points.
Türkiye silenced the Croatian crowd with a composed 3-1 win over the co-hosts. 15-year-old Aylin Uysalcan delivered a standout 14-point performance, as Türkiye dominated in key metrics including attack and blocks.
Meanwhile, China edged out Serbia in a five-set thriller. Captain Huang Yuexin powered her team with 25 points, pushing China into the quarterfinals with a determined and resilient display.
In other action, Poland continued their unbeaten run, dispatching Thailand in straight sets. Natasza Ornoch led with 13 points.
Brazil outlasted Belgium 3-0 in a close contest, with Luize Da Silva Tavares leading the charge. Italy, on the other hand, shrugged off a second-set hiccup to down Argentina 3-1, buoyed by Alessandra Talarico’s six kill blocks.
Rounding out the top eight, USA, the reigning champions, narrowly overcame Germany in five sets. Suliane Davis, Jordan Taylor, and Gabrielle Nichols led a stellar American block unit to secure a dramatic win.
And in the final match of the day, we got our last quarterfinalist. Italy continued their dominant performances and defeated Argentina 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-12, 25-12).
As these elite young athletes advance, excitement builds not only for the coveted title but also for the complete final rankings, with classification matches continuing for all 24 participating teams.
