CHALLENGER CUP W: Canada and Argentina advance to semis

The two 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Challenger Cup semifinalists are known after Day 2 of the competition in Lima, Peru.

Canada made a successful debut in the 2019 Challenger Cup, whose winners will take part in the 2020 FIVB Nations League, by defeating Chinese Taipei in Pool B and securing a spot in the semifinals despite playing only one match in the tournament in Lima, Peru, so far. Driven by Alexa Gray and Autumn Bailey, who scored 13 points apiece, the North American side prevailed by a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-16). Canada and Argentina will decide on the No.1 in the pool in tomorrow’s encounter.

As for Pool A, the Czech Republic repeated their victory against Croatia from the 2019 European Golden League final as both teams, plus Peru, have equal chances to advance to the semis. The hosts and the Czech Republic will face on a final day of the pool stage, tomorrow. Michaela Mlejnková top-scored for the Czech Republic with 15 points today, while Gabriela Orvošová served 5 aces.
