Just hours after parting ways with Andrea Anastasi, Gas Sales Bluenergy Volley Piacenza has named Ljubomir Travica as head coach for the rest of the season.
For Travica, this is a homecoming—he last coached Piacenza exactly 20 years ago in the 2004-2005 season. With over 30 years of coaching experience, he has led teams across Italy, Greece, Poland, Qatar, Iran, Croatia, Russia, and Tunisia.
This afternoon (February 19), Travica wasted no time, leading his first training session as the team prepares for their next SuperLega match on February 23 against Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina.
“I’m happy to be back in Piacenza after all these years. The call was unexpected, but I couldn’t say no. I won’t talk about the championship, but I do want to take this team as far as possible. I believe in them—but they have to believe in themselves too,” he said.
At 69, Travica proves that passion for the game never fades.
