The top seed Itambé Minas eliminated No.5 seed Osasco Voleibol Clube/Audax from the 2018/19 Brazilian Women’s Volleyball Championship playoff semifinals and returned to fight for the national title after 15 years.

Minas achieved an away four-set win against Osasco in Game 2 of the Superliga Cimed 2018-2019 semifinals, partially 25-15, 19-25, 27-25, 25-19, to close the series by a 2-0 and end a 15-year playoff finals drought. In 2003/04, which was the last season so far in which they contested for the championship trophy, Minas lost the finals exactly to their rivals in this season’s semifinals. Bruna Honório and Natália Zilio top-scored for Minas with 15 points apiece and with the latter making 83% positive reception. Minas backup middle blocker Mayany Souza twisted her ankle in the fourth set and is doubtful for the playoff finals which her team is going to play against titleholders Dentil/Praia Clube. American Destinee Hooker scored 22 points for Osasco.

No.2 seed Dentil/Praia Clube beat sixth seed SESI Vôlei Bauru in Game 2 in straight sets, just like in Game 1, to advance to their third straight Superliga title matchup. Fernanda Garay “Fê Garay” was the best scorer on the winning side with 16 points.

The timetable of the best-of-three playoff finals is yet to be determined by the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV).

Superliga Cimed 2018-2019 playoff semifinals – Game 2:

(1) Dentil/Praia Clube - (6) SESI Vôlei Bauru 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-14), series 2-0

(5) Osasco Voleibol Clube/Audax - (1) Itambé Minas 1-3 (15-25, 25-19, 25-27, 19-25), series 0-2

FIVB releases COVID-19 guidelines for restart of volleyball activities

At last the guidelines on Covid-19, from a top governing volleyball body.... I appreciate them. It is a progress. Some of recommendations are general, some specific for volleybal. It seems to be the soft legal instrument. Nevertheless they could assist to national VFs… Majority of recommendations are reasonable, some of them should not be a problem to kept, some will need a much bigger effort to be kept, some should be included yet. For this goal, there should be obtained a support (best voluntary) and discipline from athletes, coaches, officials, referees , medical staff, club owners, fans etc - realised what is in a stake… Media will have an important role in that..
For implementing of these measures there should be probably prepared also some Roadmap.. Perhaps it would be a suitable to consider the responsibility for pertinent officials, positions, and how to enforce crucial measures, recommendations, specified for this sport - if the situation would be worsen ....
We can hope , that these epidemiological preventive measures will be only temporary and volleyball will return soon to halls, and fans could see their teams personally.
