Azerbaijan claimed the second place in Pool D (4-1; 10 points) as they swept Romania on the last day of the Preliminary Round at the 2019 EuroVolley: 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-21). Dazzling Polina Rahimova staged a one-woman show with 30 points for the winning side of which 10 came from the service line! Adelina Budăi-Ungureanu scored 12 points for Romania who will advance to the eighth-finals after all – as the fourth-placed side in the pool.
Hungary failed to punish Romania for their defeat to Azerbaijan. Pool C hosts have fallen to the No.1, The Netherlands, in straight sets and remained fifth-placed with a 1-4 record and 3 points. Looking at the outcome of Azerbaijan vs. Romania, in case of beating the Dutch girls, Hungary would tie with Romania in the charts at 6 points and would advance to the next round on the grounds of a better set-ratio. How Hungarian team was poor today shows the fact that most points any of its players have scored were only 5!
