Serbia downed Turkey in a magnificent atmosphere of a sold-out Ankara Sport Hall (10,700 spectators) by a 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-22) to claim the leading position in Pool A with a perfect record (5-0) and a maximum of 15 points.
The defending champions had huge problems against the home side in all sets, not counting the second one which they won relatively easily. This was Turkey’s first loss in the tournament and will play the eighth-finals as the second-seed in Pool A (4-1; 11 points).
The most efficient player on the winning team was Tijana Bošković with 20 points. Eda Erdem Dündar had 16 points, including 7 kill blocks, for Turkey.
Bulgaria achieved a last-minute progression to the eliminations as they swept Finland in a direct duel for the last remained spot in Pool A for the next round. With this win, Bulgaria even skipped Greece in the charts and will go to the eighth-finals as the third-placed side.
Nasya Dimitrova was Bulgaria’s top scorer today with 11 points, while Mira Todorova made 4 kill blocks. Piia Korhonen scored 15 for Finland. Suvi Kokkonen made 71% positive reception.
