Poland recorded their fourth win in as many matches at the 2019 CEV European Men’s Volleyball Championship.

The world champions Poland swept debutants Montenegro by a 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-19) on Day 6 of the 2019 Men’s EuroVolley and almost certainly secured first place in Pool D (Rotterdam and Amsterdam, the Netherlands).

After three matches in Rotterdam, Poland moved to play in Amsterdam but the change of location did not influence the display of the team coached by Vital Heynen, who gave a chance to backups Komenda, Śliwka and Konarski from the start of the match. The latter was Poland’s top scorer with 13 points. Marko Vukašinović scored 10 for Montenegro.

Portugal needed four matches to achieve their first win in the tournament. But it was a highly valuable win because it came against direct rivals for the No.4 in Pool A (Montpellier, France) – Greece.

Thus, Portugal came to a step from securing a place in the eighth-finals. Portugal have to play one more match but cannot progress in the charts (1-3; 3 points). Their advancement to the top 16 depends on the match in the last round against Romania. If Portugal win by any result or even lose by a 3-2, they will play the next round.

Evan Ferreira top-scored for Portugal with 19 points, while his brother Alexandre Ferreira made 82% reception (11 digs, 64% excellent). Athanasios Protopsaltis poured in 22 points and made 87% reception (38 digs, 50% excellent) for Greece.

Spain also recorded their premier win and remained in contention for the eighth-finals. They downed Austria in Pool B (Brussels and Antwerp, Belgium), whose ticket to the next round is far out of reach: 3-2 (25-23, 26-28, 25-23, 23-25, 15-11).

Spain were amazing in the block (17 kill blocks!). Andrés Villena was their most prolific player with 24 points (4 kill blocks). Miguel Ángel Fornés made 80% attack (8/10), while Juan Manuel González made 72% reception (18 digs, 44% excellent). In Austria, Thomas Zass tallied 30 points.

North Macedonia made a true stunt in Pool C! The EuroVolley debutants silenced nearly 7,000 spectators at Dvorana Center Stožice in Ljubljana by beating one of the co-hosts and huge favorites Slovenia, the unbeaten side until today, in four sets.

Nikola Gjorgiev made another notable display. He was magnificent against Belarus, yesterday, while today he scored 24 points for North Macedonia. Risto Nikolov set up 4 kill blocks. Alen Pajenk noted 19 points (79% attack, 11/14)  for Slovenia. Žiga Štern made 72% reception (18 digs, 28% excellent).
