WCH U19 M: USA open tournament with a 3-0 win, Italy's grind out victory over Bulgaria

The World Championship for boys U 19 has begun today!


The U.S. national team has opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over the Dominican Republic. The boys from the USA had difficulties to win the second set after a huge resistance od the rival, but in the continuation of the game, they again played in a much convincing way compared to the opponent to win the match.

Bulgaria and Italy played an exciting game. The Italian team barely managed to score the win after taking the tie-break 15-7.

Argentina have downed Mexico in Pool C, while Egypt were better than Germany! The Nigerian boys have also scored the win, beating Korea in straight sets. 

Belarus were stronger than Chinese Taipei, while the Czech Republic easily defeated Colombia 3-0.

The Reigning champions Iran had a free day in round 1,  as well as Brazil, Japan and Russia. 

World Championship U19, day 1:


Chinese Taipei - Belarus 2-3 (15-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-13, 5-15)

Cuba - Tunisia at 22.00


Bulgaria - Italy 2-3 (14-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 7-15)

Czech Republic - Colombia 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-17)


Mexico - Argentina 1-3 (21-25, 25-17, 14-25, 20-25)

Egypt - Germany 3-2 (17-25, 27-25, 25-17, 13-25, 17-15)


Dominican Republic - USA 0-3 (18-25, 29-31, 17-25)

Korea - Nigeria 0-3 (20-25, 26-28, 24-26)

Issue of his statement was that he asks for restricted, limited participation of NTs, due to of absence of tight matches...Moreover he had used the argument - results 3:0. So that I have used the statistics from other competitions, where should have been much more tight matches - like VNL, World Championship, due to of selection criteria . ( I did not treat the formula of VNL at all... )
The results of this small analysis are interesting, which I did not expected - see my previous comments. Remarkable indication is that the in final phases of these tournaments where had competed the strongest NTs, which should have been on the similar/same level, the percentage of matches which had ended 3:0 is higher as in a prelimenary phase, which is also pretty high. Especially when these NTs should have been the best in the world...

However a different question is - why was increased the numbers of NTs at European Championship?
Perhaps I will try to make some remarks on one aspect of that later on, from a volleyball fan point of view.. Reply

POL M: Heynen criticizes EuroVolley format – “It’s not good for Volleyball”

[@John Doek] Everyone criticised VNL, Heynen being one of them, when its formula was introduced. It is mainly the fault of VNL that there is so little time to rest and prepare for bigger tournaments in the second part of national season, there is too much matches to play. Reply
