The 2019/20 Super League regular season is played in a shortened format compared to earlier seasons due to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. So, after the 21-day long first part of the regular season that consisted of a round-robin system that was held in four pools, the top two teams from each of the pool will advance to the second part of the competition (two pools of four teams).

Four teams ended the first part of the season as undefeated and they all claimed leadership in their respective pools (Beijing 4-0 in Pool A, Tianjin 4-0 in Pool B, Shanghai 6-0 in Pool C and Jiangsu 6-0 in Pool D). As for the second-placed sides that have also advanced to the Top 8, these are Bayi (Pool A), Guangdong (Pool B), Shandong (Pool C) and Liaoning (Pool D).

German opposite hitter Louisa Lippmann (Shanghai) finished the first part of the season as league’s top scorer with 133 points. Azerbaijani outside hitter Natalya Mammadova (Liaoning) served most aces (11), while Slovenian international Saša Planinšec (Zhejiang) made the highest number of kill blocks (26). Shandong libero Wang Mengjie had the best reception (87%) and the most effective attack was made by Zhu Ting (64%).
