The Polish Men’s Volleyball League registered the result of Game 1 of the playoff finals between ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle and ONICO Warszawa as it was.

The Plus Liga dismissed the option of repetition of Game 1 in the playoff finals between ZAKSA and ONICO.

The team from the Polish capital filed a complaint in which they challenged a couple of referee’s calls that, in their opinion, have affected the outcome of the match. Plus Liga admitted that these referee’s mistakes occurred but concluded that they were not that important for the final result of the match. Thus, the league confirmed the win of ZAKSA but also banned the umpire to conduct league’s games until the end of the season and by depriving him of salary for April. The Plus Liga also suspended the official, who was in charge of controlling the score, until the end of the year. ZAKSA player Łukasz Kaczmarek, who hit the referee’s post in fury and was red-carded, was not sanctioned for now. The Disciplinary Committee of the Polish Federation will take his case.

After that, ONICO issued another statement, expressing disbelief in regard to the Plus Liga’s decision and legal argumentation presented, and stated that they have hired a law firm to deal with this, still standing by the decision to ask for the match repetition.

Game 2 of the playoff finals between ZAKSA and ONICO is scheduled for May 1.

Referees need to be properly punished for their wrong calls. Unfortunate outcome for ONICO though, good luck in the next game.

this is a problem that ive been seeing in volleyball: referees. with the video challenge the volleyball without doubt. got better and more justice, yet I keep seeing referees trying to be the center of the match: making absurd decisions that you cant challenge, being extremely arrogant and doesnt accept anyone argue.
