Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle defeated PGE Skra Bełchatów in the decisive match for the 2020 Superpuchar Mistrzów Polski, winning the competition for the second time in a row and also second time overall.
In the sports hall of the Arłamów Hotel, the wards of the Serbian head coach Nikola Grbić prevailed over their rivals in four sets, partially 20-25, 25-14, 25-21, and 25-19. Just like in the semifinals, Łukasz Kaczmarek top-scored for Zaksa, putting down 20 points (4 aces). Serbia Dušan Petković tallied 14 points for Skra. The ZAKSA outside hitter Aleksander Śliwka was named MVP of the final match.
Recall that this year’s formula of the Super Cup has been changed. Usually, the champions and the winners of the Polish Cup fought for this trophy. This time, the four teams that have most triumphs in the last 20 years of the national championship (PlusLiga) took part in it. That’s because the last season ended prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic so the Polish champion wasn’t selected.
2020 Superpuchar Mistrzów Polski – final:
PGE Skra Bełchatów – Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle 1-3 (25-20, 14-25, 21-25, 19-25)
