Former Peruvian Women’s National Team setter Jessica Tejada was transferred to Chorrillos prison in Lima to serve 18 months of preventive detention for the alleged crime of money laundering.

Tejada is accused of taking part in the bribery that Brazilian construction company „Odebrecht“ delivered to her boyfriend, former Peruvian Deputy Minister of Communications Jorge Cuba. „Odebrecht“ delivered bribery to obtain a tender for the Lima Metro.

Tejada returned to the country from the United States last weekend and was detained while resting at her home. She will have to answer the court for appearing as beneficiary of the offshore accounts created by Jorge Cuba, where 2 million U.S. dollars in bribes were deposited. It is known that the attorney of the former volleyball player will appeal on the judicial decision that orders her pretrial detention.

A 45-year-old Tejada was part of the Peruvian Women’s National Team at the 1998 FIVB World Championship, wearing a jersey of several clubs in home country before finishing her career in Alianza Lima, last season.

Tejada has already been involved in a scandal earlier when she was caught while drinking alcohol and celebrating in public with two members of Peruvian Men’s Football National Team, Roberto Farfán and Nolberto Solano, in 1996. Media in this country nicknamed her ’Provocation’ Tejada and claimed she was not able to overcome that scandal and that’s why, four years later, she decided to move to Spain. There, she played volleyball for several years before returning to Peru.

FIVB releases COVID-19 guidelines for restart of volleyball activities

At last the guidelines on Covid-19, from a top governing volleyball body.... I appreciate them. It is a progress. Some of recommendations are general, some specific for volleybal. It seems to be the soft legal instrument. Nevertheless they could assist to national VFs… Majority of recommendations are reasonable, some of them should not be a problem to kept, some will need a much bigger effort to be kept, some should be included yet. For this goal, there should be obtained a support (best voluntary) and discipline from athletes, coaches, officials, referees , medical staff, club owners, fans etc - realised what is in a stake… Media will have an important role in that..
For implementing of these measures there should be probably prepared also some Roadmap.. Perhaps it would be a suitable to consider the responsibility for pertinent officials, positions, and how to enforce crucial measures, recommendations, specified for this sport - if the situation would be worsen ....
We can hope , that these epidemiological preventive measures will be only temporary and volleyball will return soon to halls, and fans could see their teams personally.
