Turkish women’s volleyball powerhouse VakıfBank implemented technology used by the world’s biggest sports clubs.

VakıfBank became the first volleyball club to install the GPS Athlete Performance Tracking Technology used by the world’s biggest sports clubs. This particular technology will serve the coaching staff of the Istanbul side to record every moment and movement of the players, such as jumping, speed, and acceleration, second by second, during training and matches. It will be doable with the implementation of wearable chips.

Thanks to a special software interpreting data received by the sensors in the hall, the training performance of the players as well as their efficiency in the matches, is measured and checked. Error in data processing is minimal, VakıfBank stressed. The ultimate goal of introducing such technology is to get to the highest level of the players’ performance.

We have very mixed results using Catapult Systems. Unless Vakif is planning to run a lot and do a lot of non-volleyball activities this System is not as useful and volleyball friendly as you would like to think. It will measure all sorts of stuff that is not specific to the game of volleyball. It is a very expensive toy to collect a lot of non-specific data. It's GPS system does not function consistently enough as well. If you are trying to impress a club president with collecting very complex data, this is definitely a system to spend money on. Catapult System is much more useful and applicable for basketball, football, American football......It is nearly impossible to measure and interpret a true load/impact a volleyball player sustains during volleyball matches or practices using Catapult System.
