Taubaté vs. Cruzeiro
World champions Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei qualified into semifinals from Pool B by beating the hosts Funvic/Taubaté 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-23) in two hours and seven minutes of a battle! The clash gained even a higher dimension since Taubaté were encouraged by the crowd that filled “Coliseo Abaeté” gymnasium.
The top scorers were Cuban Yoandy Leal from Cruzeiro and Ricardo Lucarelli from Taubaté with 16 points each.
Inthe same pool, Uruguayan champions Club Atlético Bohemios noted their first win at the tournament by defeating Bolivian Club San Martín Vóley in straight sets (25-22, 25-15, 25-20). By this, Bohemios will have a chance to qualify for the semis over Taubaté in the last round despite weak odds.
Gonzalo Grossi led scorers of the winning team from Uruguay with 13 points, while on side of San Martín, Edson Pérez scored 10.
In the first match of Day 2, in Pool A, Argentine vice-champions Personal Bolívar smoothly beat Club Peerless from Peru in straight sets, with partial 25-11, 25-16, 25-15 in their debut at the tournament. Thus, Bolívar already secured semifinal spot since Pool A consists of three teams only. Argentinian ‘classic’ Bolívar – UPCN Vóley San Juan will decide pool leaders.
The best scorer of the game was Peerless’ Luis Soto with 12 points. Cuban Sánchez Bozhulev topped scorers of Argentine team with 11.
