Firstly, Poland and Germany played an outstanding five-setter that ended with the victory of an East European powerhouse – 3-2 (25-23, 25-17, 18-25, 14-25, 15-10).
Poland managed to put an initial direct route to the victory with two convincing sets dominated by its efficiency in attack.
However, Germany staged a surprising recovery and acquired an opportunity to fight for the match in the tie-break, after winning the third and fourth set.
In the final period, Poland had a slight advantage (6-3, 8-5) and its efficiency in the attack paved their way to a victory and qualification for the semi-finals where it will meet the winner of Belgium – Serbia game.
Turkey and Russia starred in another close match that ended in a 3-1 victory for the Turkish side (25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19).
The Turks will now wait for the much anticipated clash between the hosts Azerbaijan and the Netherlands to know the name of its opponent in the semis.
