Olympic champions China, with several players from Rio campaign in their roster (like Zhang Changing and Gong Xiangyu for instance), swept Kazakhstan away in straight sets 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-13) in the final of the 5th AVC Cup for Women, in Vinh Phuc, Vietnam.

China took revenge on Kazakh ladies for 3-2 loss in the pool stage to retain Asian Cup title won on home soil in Shenzhen, in 2014.

Gong Xiangyu, Chinese teenage sensation from Jiangsu, scored a match-high 21 points. Katerina Tatko led Kazakhstan with 6 points.

Thailand caused upset by defeating Japan for the bronze medal 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-17).
