The first set was extremely close with both teams being not able to break away in the score.
After a tie at 24 all, Generali sealed it with a block for the final 24-26.
The guests from Germany stamped 7 aces – 3 being scored by Christian Dünnes – in the second set to go for the provisional 2:0 after only 21 minutes.
The Italians did not want to lose that easily and played strong in the third set; their opponents had two match balls at 22:24 before CUNEO drew level.
However, Generali did not lose that unique chance to make it to the Playoffs 12 and finished the game in great fashion with an ace.
“This is a great present for my birthday” says Generali head coach Mihai Paduretu. “I think we displayed a great team performance, all my guys played well and were fully concentrated up to the end of the game. We did a good job especially in defense”.
“It was a strange match but I cannot accept the attitude we showed in the second set, we should have reacted there” says home mentor Flavio Gulinelli.
“Congratulations to Generali for their ticket to the Playoffs 12”.
