The Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, and Italy finished the pool stage with a perfect 4-0 record and will play the quarterfinals as pool leaders, which means that they will face second-placed sides. The defending champions Iran are out of the tournament as they were last placed in Pool C with all 4 defeats. This means that we will have new titleholders in the Men’s Volleyball competition at the end of the final on July 13.
Patrik Indra was unstoppable for the Czech Republic in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-19) win over Hong Kong in Pool A with 26 points. The Czechs ended at the top of the pool with a 4-0 record and 12 points. Chinese Taipei downed Chile by a 3-1 to claim No.2 in the pool (3-1 and 8 points) and eliminated the South American side and Ukraine as well from the contention for the quarterfinals. Taipei’s captain Tsung-Hsuan Wu scored game-high 25 points.
In Pool B, Russia secured No.1 and a spot in the quarterfinals in the penultimate round (4-0 and 12 points), while Portugal and the USA battled for the only one remained spot in the pool for the final eight in the last round. The European side prevailed by a 3-0 (25-19, 33-31, 25-21), thanks to 18 points from Bruno Cunha, and reached a 3-1 record and 9 points. Even 21 points from Jaylen Jasper did not help Americans who ended in third place with a 2-2 record and 4 points.
Poland and France had a quarterfinal ticket in their pocket prior to the last round in Pool C – Poland as the pool leaders with a 4-0 record and 12 points, France as the second-placed with a 3-1 record and 8 points.
By beating Mexico in straight sets, partially 25-20, 25-16, and 25-19, Italy claimed No.1 in Pool D with a 4-0 and 11 points. As much as three players shared the top scorer’s title for the „Azzurri“, all making 10 points: the captain Fabio Ricci, Giacomo Raffaelli, and Alberto Polo (5 kill blocks). José Luis Rubio tallied 15 points for Mexico. Japan swept Argentina by a 3-0, squeezing the South Americans out to the third place and earning a spot in the final eight. Kento Miyaura led Japan’s scorers with 18 points, while Yuki Higuchi set up 4 kill blocks. Felipe Benavídez made 12 points for Argentina.
