Argentina beat Cuba by a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-20) in the final of the Men’s Volleyball Tournament in the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, to claim the gold medal for the 2nd successive time, 3rd overall (1995, 2015, 2019).
Argentina recorded the back-to-back win against Cuba in the tournament as they beat the Caribbean side in the preliminary round, also in straight sets. The players coached by Horácio Dileo finished the Pan-Am Games undefeated (5-0) and lost only one set on their way towards the title. Cuba staged a big surprise in the semifinals by eliminating runners-up and, until that moment, undefeated side Brazil with a 3-0.
Argentina’s opposite hitter Germán Johansen led Argentina in the gold medal encounter with 14 points, including 4 blocks, while Jan Martínez added 11 points. Cuba’s top scorer was Miguel Ángel López with 13 points.
Brazil swept Chile in straight sets, partially 25-12, 25-19, and 25-21, to claim the bronze medal.
