This result is another boost of confidence for Tomis – Romania’s national champions – with only two weeks to go for their debut in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League versus Austria’s Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK.
In Gabrovo Tomis swept all of their matches as it was playing three teams that are set to compete in the 2014 edition of the CEV Volleyball Cup. Tomis started out by routing MOK Djerdap KLADOVO of Serbia in straight sets (27-25, 25-18, and 25-22) before edging hosts CVC GABROVO 3:1 (19-25, 25-22, 25-17, and 25-23). In the last match of the tournament the players from the Black Sea needed five sets but eventually could best Turkey’s Maliye Milli Piyango ANKARA (21-25, 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, and 15-9). In Gabrovo head coach Martin Stoev and his assistant Radu Began opted for a starting six that included Andrey Zhekov, Dragos Pavel, Sergiu Stancu, Joao Carlos Massinatori Dias, Israel Calderon Rodriguez, Dmitrii Bahov and libero Vladislav Ivanov. Andrei Stoian, Adrian Aciobanitei, Robert Vologa, and Razvan Tanasescu all got some playing time in Bulgaria as well.
Tomis CONSTANTA recently signed also Egyptian opposite Reda Haikal who could not star in Istanbul and Gabrovo but will be ready to support the group right from the start of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League.
