Bulgaria’s champions Marek Union-Ivkoni DUPNITSA are set to compete for the second consecutive season in Europe’s elite club competition. A press conference was held on Thursday with representatives of local and regional media to discuss the goals that the club has set for the upcoming start of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. It was also a good occasion to introduce the press to the CEV campaign “Fair Play. Volleyball Way”.

“I would like to thank all sponsors for their support. It is because of their help that we are once more able to participate in the CEV Volleyball Champions League” said General Manager Lyudmil Naydenov. “Bulgarian companies have to understand that there is a need not only to support the national team but also the clubs. Without clubs there won’t be any strong national team in the future”.

“Three players from the starting six have left the team and they were replaced by young boys from our Volleyball academy” added head coach Nayden Naydenov. “I expect that this young team will be playing with glowing hearts and give our fans something to cheer about. There is no weak opponent in the Champions League because the best teams and players in the world are starring in this competition. My young boys will be proud to have the opportunity to see where they stand as they play the world’s Volleyball elite. We have nothing to lose and our goal is to finish third in pool A”.

There have been some changes in the team but I am still confident about our first match against TOURS VB” said team captain and setter Gjorgi Gjorgiev. “The team has a lot of potential as we have shown in our friendly matches with Halkbank ANKARA and Kuzbass KEMEROVO of Russia. We have the right team spirit and if last year we missed on a chance to continue our campaign in the Challenge Round of the CEV Volleyball Cup, I hope that this time we will make it there”.  Libero Martin Bozhilov, who was a member of the national team that finished fourth at the 2013 CEV VELUX EuroVolley two weeks ago in Copenhagen, invited all fans to support the team and enjoy a unique Volleyball experience.

Once more DUPNITSA will be playing their home matches at Arena Samokov, some 60 km from Sofia, and 40 from their home town, making sure that transportation is guaranteed to all fans who want to attend the European matches of their heroes.
