Brazil coach Zé Roberto: I am very happy with this victory. We respect the Bulgarian team. We played very hard, with strong serves, and showed our strength in defence and blocking. We committed some mistakes in counter attack but, still, it is an important victory for us.

Brazil opposite Sheilla: We started the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championship on the right foot. In the second set we did not play on our best level, we definitely can do better.

Bulgaria coach Vladimir Kuzyutkin: We cannot say what would’ve happened if we had won the second set. Brazil made a very good game and I wish a win for us in the next match. Brazil played very well in defence.

Bulgaria captain Filipova Strashimira: This is not the way we wanted to start the game. We took a lot of risk and committed too many mistakes. However, we know we cannot play on the same level as the Olympic Champions.
