“I have to congratulate RC CANNES because they played much better than us,” acknowledged the mentor of VakifBank, Giovanni Guidetti, after the match. “We learned a lot from this match and we will make sure we make good use of these lessons.”
“Congratulations to our opponents. They were better than us tonight and they played really well,” said team captain Gözde Sonsirma. “We were not good enough, especially in serving and in reception as well. We are just at the beginning of this competition, so I am confident that if we keep on working hard, we will be playing better in the next rounds.”
“We played more relaxed than VakifBank did and even though we are a new team with many young players, we have been working really hard and this was the first time that the group really performed at their best,” said the Chinese-born head coach of Cannes, Yan Fang.
“I am so happy with this match especially as we delivered an excellent performance tonight,” said team captain Victoria Ravva. “I have to be honest and to admit that this result came as a surprise for us tonight but we fought hard for every single rally through to the end. There are many different scenarios now in this Pool and we will try to get even stronger for the next rounds.”
