The 2021 African Nations Women’s Championship is the 20th edition of this event, and the tournament is also played in Kigali, Rwanda as well as the men’s championship.
The teams are divided into 2 pools. Rwanda, Senegal, Morocco and Nigeria are in Pool A, while Cameroon, Kenya (9 titles of African champions), Tunisia, DR Congo and Burundi are drawn in Pool B.
On the first day of the African Championship of Nations, a match was played between the great rivals – Cameroon and Kenya. The two national teams played in the finals of the continental championships in 2017 and 2019. Both times Cameroon was better, in 2017 with 3-0, and in 2019 with a 3-2 victory. At the 2019 All Africa Games and 2019 FIVB World Cup Kenya was better and won both times 3-1. Today’s match between these two teams ended with a 3-0 victory for Cameroon. Stephanie Fotso and Moma Bassoko were the top scorers for Cameroon with 13 points each. Sharon Chepchumba was Kenya top scorer with 13 points as well as the two best players of Cameroon.
