Parallel with EuroVolley 2023, the 2023 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship Started in Yaoundé

Yaoundé, Cameroon — Amidst the excitement surrounding EuroVolley 2023, another significant volleyball tournament is taking the center stage in Africa. The 21st edition of the Women’s African Volleyball Championship, a biennial international tournament, is being organized by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB). From 16th to 25th August 2023, the Cameroonian capital of Yaoundé is serving as the battleground for Africa’s leading women’s volleyball teams.

Day Two Matches Heat Up Competition

In the Pool A matches, Egypt demonstrated their prowess by defeating Mali in straight sets (3-0), and Cameroon, the host nation, impressed with a clean 3-0 victory over Nigeria. Algeria also emerged triumphant, outclassing Burundi in straight sets.

In the Pool B matches, Rwanda secured a convincing 3-0 victory against Lesotho, while Kenya maintained their dominance with a 3-0 win over Burkina Faso. In a nail-biting clash, Uganda emerged victorious in a five-set thriller against Morocco, with a final scoreline of 3-2.

Current Pool Standings Reflect Intense Competition

After two matches in the competition, Pool A sees Cameroon and Egypt holding the top positions, both with flawless win records so far. They are followed closely by Algeria and Nigeria, both with 1-1 win-loss scores. Mali and Burundi are currently at the bottom of Pool A, as they are yet to secure a win in the competition.

In Pool B, Kenya is leading the chart with two wins, impressively without losing a single set. Following closely is Uganda, also with two wins; however, their last victory was a hard-fought five-setter. Morocco occupies the third place, and Rwanda is in fourth with a 1-1 win-loss score. Burkina Faso and Lesotho are at the bottom of Pool B, having not yet secured a win.
