27-year-old Thomas Edgar was named player of the final match, and the MVP of the five-game finals series.
“I’m very happy. For this city, this team,” Edgar said.
“This is more than a team, this is a great family. There is a lot of passion, it’s very sweet for me after a long season, working hard. To beat UPCN after six years, it is perfect. It has been one of the happiest years of my career.”
Bundaberg-born Edgar has played in the strongest leagues in the world, cementing his reputation as one of the best Opposites playing the game.
Before travelling to Argentina, 2.12m Edgar played seasons in Italy, Korea and China, and also led Australia’s unsuccessful qualifying campaign for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
With the best-of-five finals locked at two-all, Personal Bolivar hosted the decider, winning convincingly 3-0 in front of a capacity home crowd.
“It was very important to define it here,” Edgar said and added:”We were first in the regular phase and that was very important. Having the 5th game with our audience was very nice. The matches with UPCN are always difficult. It’s a great team, with a lot of history in volleyball. This is very important to us.”
