The news that six-time national men’s volleyball champions UPCN San Juan Vóley Club decided to let go their captain Javier Filardi echoed like a bomb in Argentina.

The dismissal of a 37-year-old outside hitter came after UPCN lost the classic of the Liga Argentina de Voleibol Banco Nación against Personal Bolívar, on January 26. As the club management explained in the official note, they parted ways with Filardi by a mutual agreement due to the difference in opinions of the two sides.

“The dismissal happened because I don’t like to be in the places in which they don’t want me to be. I’m very simple and money didn’t change my life. I hope my teammates can get on top. My life will go on and I’ll continue my path in a new jersey and with the same commitment as always, accompanied by my family that I love. Hugs to all who wish me both evil and good. I’ll keep on trying to harvest volleyball titles,” the player published on his web page.

Filardi came to UPCN from Bolívar in 2013, winning the national title three times. All in all, he played 20 tournaments with UPCN and won 16. By comparing these four and a half seasons with UPCN, it is clear that Filardi had the best numbers when it comes to average points last season
