Thailand won the inaugural edition of the SAT Thailand Invitation, officially known as the ASEAN Grand Prix. It is a tournament in which members of Southeast Asian Zonal Volleyball Association (SEAZVA) take part. These members are Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines.
The hosts Thailand secured the top spot in the round-robin tournament that was held in Nakhon Ratchasima by beating Indonesia in the last round with a 3-1 (25-17, 27-29, 25-20, 25-16). Thus, Thailand (strengthened by experienced players Pleumjit Thinkaow, Wilavan Apinyapong, Onuma Sittirak and Malika Kanthong), finished the tournament with a perfect record (3-0) and a maximum points (9). Indonesia came in second place with 5 points from two wins and one loss.
Onuma Sittirak top-scored for Thailand in this match with 18 points and was named MVP. Champions Thailand were awarded by 30,000 US Dollars.
