ACH U23 W: Even several senior NT players didn’t help Thailand, Japan win gold

Japanese National Team performed huge comeback in the finals of the 2017 Asian Women’s U23 Volleyball Championship against Thailand to win the gold medal.

Ladies coached by Kiyoshi Abo were two sets down in the final match of the 2nd edition of the Asian Women’s U23 Volleyball Championship against the hosts Thailand in front of 3,500 spectators in the „MCC Hall the Mall“, in Nakhon Ratchasima, but managed to make a turnaround, partially 20-25 16-25 25-19 27-25 15-12.

This was Japan’s first trophy in the tournament. Chinese NT won the premiere tournament, in the Philippines (beating Thailand 3-1), two years ago.

By advancing in the finals, both Thailand and Japan have secured their berths for the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U23 World Championship in Slovenia from September 10 to 17.

The most productive players of the Japanese NT throught tournament were NEC Red Rockets receiver Misaki Yamauchi, Hisamitsu Springs receiver Hikari KatoTokyo College opposite Ayaka Sugi… while Thailand was led on the court by the three senior national team members: opposite Pimpichaya Kokram (3BB Nakornnont) and receivers Ajcharaporn Kongyot (Supreme Chonburi) and Chatchu-on Moksri (Nakhon Ratchasima).

Vietnam took bronze medal by defeating Chinese Taipei 3-0 (25-20 25-19 25-19).
