Zenit coach Vladimir Alekno said that his son Loran will be in the roster for the 2017/2018, perfoming as backup setter for Aleksandr Butko.
“Loran Alekno is planned to be substitute for Butko. It is clear to me that this is a risk, but this is not because he has the same surname like me. This year I visited more matches of the youth team than ever. I didn’t look at him as a father, but as a coach. I am not interested in other Russian setters that we could take. He will do the job. It is clear that Butko will solve all complex and basic tasks. But I’m happy how Loran refers to volleyball at the moment. Studying, personal life, nonsense – that’s all in the background. In his head there is only volleyball, so why shouldn’t I give him a chance?” coach Alekno stated.
Recall that Loran already made his debut for senior team of Zenit in the finish of the season but was soon returned to the youth team to keep developing.
