China men’s league: Shanghai beat Beijing in classic to settle on top, Leyva’s aces lead Sichuan to No.3

Shanghai defeated Beijing in the classic of the Chinese men’s volleyball league.

In Round 6 of the Top 8 (Second Stage of the regular season), three-time defending champions Shanghai inflicted the second defeat in a row to Beijing, 3-0 (28-26, 25-14, 26-24). Interestingly, only until a week ago, Beijing were the only undefeated side in the league.

The Argentinean Facundo Conte topped Shanghai with 14 points. The Frenchman Kévin Tillie scored 16 points for the losing side.

Shanghai are at No.1 at the moment with an 11-1 record and 32 points, while Beijing fell to No.2 with a 10-2 record and 29 points.

The Cuban Leonardo Leyva pushed Sichuan close to securing the playoff spot. He poured in 29 points (7 aces) in the win of his team against Bayi, 3-2 (25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 19-25, 15-13). Sichuan are at No.3 with a 6-6 record and 17 points, squeezing out today’s rivals to No.4 (6-6; 16 points).
