ARG M: UPCN and Ciudad book their places for playoff semis

UPCN San Juan Vóley Club, title favorites No.2 in the 2017/18 Argentinean men’s volleyball championship - Liga Argentina de Voleibol Banco Nación, made the playoff quarterfinal sweep of No.7 Libertad Burgi Vóley – 3-0.

The second-seed UPCN won Game 3 of the best-of-five playoff quarterfinals against Libertad by a 3-1, which was the first set they lost in the series, partially 25-20, 25-23, 32-34, 28-26, to advance to the semifinals.

The Pole Zbigniew Bartman led UPCN with 27 points, while American David Lee added 6 kill blocks, making 80% attack (12/15, blocked once). Libero Sebastián Garrocq recorded 86% reception (35 digs, 2 errors, 66% perfect). In Libertad, Ronald Fayola scored 25 points and 75% reception (12 digs).

No.4 Ciudad Vóley prevailed against No.5 Gigantes del Sur by a 3-0 in the series, winning Game 3 in straight sets, partially 25-21, 25-19, 25-20. Santiago Darraidou and Ezequiel Palacios topped Ciudad with 14 points apiece. Santiago Álvarez and Cuban Miguel Ángel López scored 13 points each for Gigantes.

Personal Bolívar and Lomas Vóley are currently competing in the 2018 South American Club Championship in Montes Claros, Brazil, so the continuation of their quarterfinal series against Monteros Vóley Club (1-1) and Obras de San Juan (2-0), respectively, are postponed for March 9.
