Brazil continued their dominant run in the Volleyball Nations League 2025 with a 3-1 victory over South American rivals Argentina on Wednesday, officially clinching a place in the tournament’s Finals. The intense clash opened the third and final week of the Preliminary Phase at the Chiba Port Arena in Japan.
The Brazilians came out strong, winning the first two sets 25-21 and 25-23. Although Argentina battled back to take the third set 26-24, Brazil responded with a commanding 25-18 win in the fourth to seal the match.
With this win, Brazil remains unbeaten in their last seven matches, leading the standings with eight wins and 23 points. Their ticket is now booked for the Finals in Ningbo, China, set for July 30 to August 3.
Alan Souza starred for Brazil, scoring 20 points through 18 kills, a block, and an ace. Henrique Honorato added 18 points of his own. “We played really well as a team today,” Honorato said. “It’s always tough against Argentina. We had a setback in the third, but I’m proud of how we bounced back.”
Argentina’s Pablo Kukartsev gave a strong performance by scoring a team-high 17 points. Luciano Palonsky added 15, helping Argentina stay competitive throughout the match.
Despite the loss, Argentina currently holds seventh place in the standings with five wins and 13 points — still within the Finals qualification zone, though their spot remains at risk depending on other results.
