The first set did not start well for the home heroines who trailed already by the first technical time-out (7:8) before some good serving provided by Neslihan Darnel widened the gap (11:14). Still, the hosts stormed back to move to the front by the second mandatory stop (16:15) and could bring it home by resisting to the attacks of Eczacibasi with a series of excellent blocks (25-23). The score remained very close all the way through in the second set but Eczacibasi could take a small lead after the second technical time-out and eventually went for the 1:1 (25-21).
After that, the guests from Turkey literally dominated the scene opening set 3 with a terrific 8:2 and playing with great confidence up to the end (25-16). A similar story followed in the fourth set where Eczacibasi could seal the final 3:1 (25-21) to stay unbeaten in the prelims of Europe’s most elitist competition.
