Toray Arrow have a 6-5 score so far. Are you satisfied with this record?
“Of course, I am not satisfied with this record. For clubs like Toray Arrows, it is not an acceptable result. None of the players are going onto the court to lose, we go there to win. Toray Arrows has only one target and that is winning. We have a very young team but they are learning quite fast. I believe in the second half our team will be completely different.”
Can Toray reach one of the first 8 places in V-League?
“We were in a very tough draw in the first half, and I was new, trying to learn the league. We are working for better results, and I am confident we will be in the first eight. Our target is always going higher. We will give to our fans the best result.”
Are you satisfied with your performances so far?
“For the first time in my life, I am playing in V-league. It is a completely different understanding, game system and way of playing, so at first, I tried to adapt myself. Coming from the World Championship with the Azerbaijan team to a Japanese club, it was quite confusing. I believe I have adjusted well and now the second half will be even better. The fans will watch more and stronger spikes from me.
What are you doing in Japan when not playing volleyball?
“We are based in a city very close to Kyoto, so on off days I always go there for the magnificent history and great food. Mostly I am around Nisihiki market and Gion district. I love the history here, all the temples and shrines are so beautiful. Unfortunately, our off days are Mondays when many museums are closed. Nonetheless, there are many amazing things to explore in this beautiful country. In 2020 Japan will host the world for the Olympic games and I think it will be one of the greatest games in the history.”
Have you got used to life in Japan?
“I am completely used to life in Japan now because we have a great managing system in the team. As of the first day, everything has been well organized and done. When things are organized and in order, there are no unnecessary distractions. Also, the Japanese people are cool, respectful and polite. I love being here more than anywhere else.”
Also, it’s interesting that you released a book. Can you describe it and are you planning to translate it in English?
“It is a short book, like a guide, for parents to explain them how well it can go for their children when they combine sports and education. Many children have a chance to receive university scholarships to have a better future. Also, being involved in sports does not necessarily mean their children have to be professional or Olympic athletes, sport just gives them proper discipline, mind and body control. I believe sport is the best way for children to have a bright future, to grow in a trouble-free environment. I have just finished the English translation and will soon publish it as well. It will be available at www.lulu.com, the same as the Turkish one.”
