In one of the best matches of the Brazilian Women’s Superliga Banco Do Brasil this season, the 4th-seed Bauru took down no.5 Sesc 3-2 (25-27, 25-18, 25-22, 19-25, 15-10) and assured the place in the playoff semifinals. In addition, the São Paulo club repeated the feat of the 2018/19 season when they also overthrew Bernardinho’s team in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Bauru will face the side that had the best campaign of the regular season Itambé/Minas.
The scare of the night was the injury of Bulgarian international Dobriana Rabadzhieva. The Bauru opposite hitter seems to have twisted her right knee in the 3rd set. She left the court and never came back. What surprised many was the tension between the two head coaches, long-time associates in the Brazil Men’s National Team, Bernardo Rezende ‘Bernardinho’ and Roberley Leonaldo ‘Rubinho’. They argued and mocked each other, mostly during the 2nd set. The former even received a red card at one point.
Azerbaijani Polina Rahimova top-scored Bauru with 25 points. Adenízia Silva set up 5 blocks, while Tifanny Abreu made 77 % reception (26 digs, 19 % excellent). Lorenne Teixeira put down 30 points for Sesc. Valquíria Dullius made 6 blocks.
2020/21 Brazilian Women’s Superliga Banco Do Brasil – playoff semifinals:
(1) Itambé/Minas vs Sesi Vôlei Bauru (4)
(2) Osasco São Cristóvão Saúde vs Dentil/Praia Clube (3)
