On Sunday, the team of Unilever Rio de Janeiro won its eighth title in Brazil. For Bernardo Rezende as a coach, who leads Unilever since 2004, it was the sixth title in the Super League.
Rezende’s contract expires at the end of the season. Already in August last year, the Brazilian coach said that he does not intend to connect two work places any more – the club and the national team. When he prolongued his role at the national team, one could assume that after this season, his job in the team of Rio de Janeiro ends.
“I promised it to my family and this decision is independent of the results in London. I will run only one team”, said then one of the most successful coaches in history. “Contract with Unilever is to last untill the end of season 2012/2013 and I intend to fulfill it to the end. Then I will sit down and think about everything, but certainly I will not share my work between the two teams.”
However, the gold medal won on Saturday messed Bernardinho’s plans. Today, the coach announced that he intends to continue working with the Unilever group, and thus continue to work on two jobs.
“I am part of Unilever”, said after the medal ceremony, adding that the family is constantly pushing him to slow down a bit and live a quieter lifestyle.
