Gerdau Minas took a big step toward the Brazilian Superliga playoff finals with a straight-set win over Osasco São Cristóvão Saúde (28-26, 25-22, 25-14) at Arena UniBH in Belo Horizonte.
Minas now leads the best-of-three semifinal series 1-0. They can clinch a spot in the final on April 21 when the teams meet again in Osasco.
The match had a bittersweet moment—Kisy Nascimento, one of Minas’ top scorers, left injured early in the third set. Still, the team stayed focused, with Yonkaira Peña leading the scoreboard with 14 points and earn MVP honors.
Osasco struggled to keep up, especially in attack. Their top scorer, Natália Zilio, had 17 points, but lacked support from the rest of the squad.
