BRA W: Minas sweep Praia; Sesi Bauru defeated Fluminense

Gerdau Minas delivered another strong statement in the Brazilian Superliga, sweeping archrival Dentil Praia Clube at Arena UniBH in Belo Horizonte. Minas won in straight sets, 3–0 (25–23, 25–22, 25–22), in the 15th round of the Superliga.

With the victory, Minas tightened its grip on second place with 38 points, five behind leaders Sesc RJ Flamengo, who have played one more match. Praia Clube dropped to fourth with 30 points.

American outside hitter Payton Caffrey form Dentil Praia Clube was the match’s top scorer with 15 points. Thaisa Daher finished with 13 points and was Minas top scorer, Glayce Vasconcelos scored 12 and took home the MVP, as Minas’ blocking and servie consistently frustrated Praia’s attack.

Earlier in Rio de Janeiro, Sesi Bauru claimed an important road win, defeating Fluminense 3–1 (25–22, 13–25, 25–14, 25–22). The result moved Sesi Bauru up to third place with 32 points.

Bruna Moraes led Sesi with 19 points, while middle blocker Diana Duarte added 16, including five blocks, and was named the match MVP. Fluminense’s Ariane Pinto scored 21 in the loss.
